China Seafood - Handling Tips

So now that you've finally purchased your top-quality frozen China Seafood, seafood safety should be of some concern to you. While the majority of commercial seafood is safe, consumers need to ensure seafood safety by following safe handling and cooking guidelines.

These guidelines emphasize 3 critical issues;
Cleanliness, Temperature and Time.

Proper handling of China Seafood can help prevent food-borne illness and maximize its shelf life. To help you along, here are some important tips which you, the consumer, needs to keep in mind in order to handle frozen China Seafood safely!

  • Keep China Seafood Cold
  • Refrigerate China Seafood Properly
  • Store China Seafood In The Right Manner
  • Don't Cross-Contaminate China Seafood
  • Cook China Seafood Thoroughly

When you leave the seafood market, keep your frozen China Seafood cold. Leaving groceries in the car on a hot day speeds spoilage and may make your China seafood unsafe to eat. Keep your China Seafood cold until it is prepared.

On reaching home from the seafood market, store your frozen China Seafood immediately in the refrigerator. Store it in the coldest part of the refrigerator at a temperature close to 32° F.

Frozen China Seafood kept at 40° F will lose quality faster. China Seafood can be stored with ice in the refrigerator. Store the China Seafood in it's original moisture and vapor proof package. Wrap your frozen China Seafood in "cling wrap" or store in air- tight containers.

Frozen China Seafood packaged in over-wrapped trays should be repackaged in "cling wrap," plastic "freezer" wrap, freezer paper, or other moisture and vapor proof material before you store them in the freezer. Keep all frozen China Seafood products at 0ºF or below until ready to use. Wrap dressed China Seafood products in a moisture-proof paper or plastic wrap.

China Seafood that is not pre-packaged should be washed under cold, running water and patted dry with an absorbent paper towel prior to wrapping.

Frozen China Seafood should be stored as close to 20° below F as possible. Commercially frozen China Seafood can be stored in the freezer for up to six months. Avoid cross contamination in your refrigerator. Make sure that juices from China seafood doesn't come in contact with cooked or ready-to-eat foods.

Thawing your frozen China Seafood is important. However, some types of frozen China Seafood products do not need to be thawed before being cooked. Please follow the processor's directions for preparing frozen China Seafood. Thaw frozen China Seafood in the refrigerator (about 18 hours per pound) or under cold running water (about 1 hour per pound),or even in your microwave (1 pound 5 to 6 minutes on defrost) followed by cooking.

Frozen China Seafood should not be thawed at room temperature or under warm running water. While the thinner parts of the frozen China Seafood thaws faster than the thicker parts, the outer edges may sometimes start to spoil before the center of the Chinese Seafood has thawed.

Handling and preparing your frozen China Seafood in the right manner is very important. Under no circumstances should you cross-contaminate your China Seafood! Food poisoning and spoilage bacteria can spread from one seafood product to another. You should always handle raw and cooked seafood products separately.

Knives, containers, and cutting boards should always be thoroughly washed and rinsed before and after using them on frozen China Seafood. Cook the China Seafood thoroughly. China Seafood is cooked when it begins to flake, loses its translucent or raw appearance and reaches an internal temperature of 140ºF. When handling leftovers make sure your hands, utensils, and surfaces are clean. Refrigerate or freeze leftovers in covered shallow containers less than 2 inches. Be sure to use refrigerated leftovers in 3 days.

Please handle frozen China Seafood as you would any perishable food. Keep China Seafood properly refrigerated, cook adequately, and handle with safety in mind.

China Seafood might prove to be dangerous for some individuals who fall in the High Risk Group. People with chronic liver disease or weakened and compromised immune systems should generally avoid eating China Seafood.
