American caught wild shrimp is
not sufficient to meet the demands of the domestic
consumer market. But in spite of this, consumers
prefer the wild caught shrimp, mainly due to
certain promotional programs. Although the prices
are higher, these shrimps are selling like hot
cakes.
Shrimp
rings are hot favorites in the U.S market. A
shrimp ring is a ring of shrimp that encircles
a plastic bowl and contains a portion of cocktail
sauce in the middle.
Shrimp
rings also come fully cooked. In order to eat
they just have to be thawed. The shrimp rings
should be removed from the carton, but without
removing the plastic bag. They should be placed
in the refrigerator on a plate and left overnight.
Then the plastic wrap should be removed, excess
water should be drained and they should be put
back in the refrigerator will they are ready
to be served. Shrimp rings once thawed are ready
to be served. It can be garnished with lettuce
and lemon slices and served with cocktail sauce.
A
tangy shrimp cocktail sauce can easily be made.
Mix one-third cup ketchup, two tea spoon horseradish
and one to half teaspoon lemon juice. Cover
and refrigerate. This can be prepared the day
before. After the cooked shrimp rings have been
thawed and drained, arrange them on lettuce
leaves with cocktail sauce in the center. This
may be garnished with wedges of lemon.
Shrimp
rings may also be surrounded by slices of onions
with a dip in the center. They are great appetizers
and party starters and all time favorite with
the American consumer. In keeping with any holiday
spirit, always have shrimp rings handy.
