Warm water shrimp is one of the most important commercial commodities in the world. It is produced in over 100 countries around the globe and more than 25 of these countries ship their products to the U.S. market. They are harvested in the wild and also grown in aquaculture operations. They are very versatile and can be prepared and presented in many different ways. Therefore shrimp has consistently remained America's favorite fresh/frozen seafood.

The U.N. report says that there are more than 340 species of shrimp which have commercial value. Out of these Penacid is the dominant type which make up 80% of the world's shrimp production. U.S. fishermen harvest 130,000 tons of shrimp in an average year. The leading shrimps are brown, white and pink, accounting for 60% of the total catch.

These shrimps are sold fresh or frozen or even peeled, deveined, spiced or cooked. They are spiced or cooked sometimes with shell on or sometimes with tail on. Spiced shrimp are a versatile and delicious addition to any meal.

Spiced shrimp cooked in Indian style can be delicious. Cook sliced onions until golden. Add jalapeno, garlic and ginger and cook stirring until jalapeno is softened and garlic is golden. Add cumin, corriander, salt and turmeric and cook until fragrant. Add tomatoes and cook. Then add spiced shrimp, turning occasionally until cooked through.

Another exotic dish is spiced shrimp with Garlic bread sticks, Key West Cocktail sauce Quick Potato salad. In order to prepare this pre- heat oven, prepare potato salad and place in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Prepare cocktail sauce and refrigerate for 5 minutes. then prepare shrimp and serve.

Jumbo shrimp peeled and spiced with freshly cracked black pepper and dry mustard make a terrific dish for the buffet table. The shrimps are threaded into skewers before cooking.
