Squid Market Update : August 25, 2017
China Squid Market Update
Frozen seafood suppliers are advising that no significant drop pricing is expected this year for China squid prices. Illex Argentinus catching in 2017 is about 110,000 MT. 2016 season was approx. 60,000 MT. However, 2014 catch was approx 250,000 MT so we are still very far below normal landings according to frozen seafood exporters.
So far this year frozen seafood suppliers are seeing Todarodes Pacificus catch in international waters is better than 2016, however even with a significant increase in landings, it won’t be enough to offset the drop of harvest of Illex Argentinus squid over the past 3 years.
Overall frozen seafood exporters expect China squid prices to remain mostly stable with some chance for a moderate reduction in price. No significant drop is expected.
