Trawling ban in Kochi started 2nd week August
Since trawler ban began, major seafood landings started with suppliers delivering loligio duvauceli (Indian squid)- 60% and Sepia pharaonis (Cuttle Fish)-20% followed by sea caught shrimps; Parapenaeopsis stylifera (Karikkadi) and metapenaeus dobsonii (Poovalan) in which P. stylifera was major quantity from suppliers in Kollam (Sakthikulangara), Alleppey (Thottapally) and Kayamkulam harbours. Exporters are following situation closely to determine quantities available.
Octopus landings have been poor. Deep Sea Shrimp– Solenocera crassicornis started landing.
Indian mackerel landings have generally been scarce and not as much as expected from the beginning of Trawl Ban but this week mackerel landings have improved. Some landings of deep sea fish such as skipjack tuna ( Katsuwonus pelamis) and Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) have begun this week with mackerel. Generally expecting better seafood landings in the coming week per harbour reviews and exporters expect to ramp up sales soon.
