India Marine Landings Market : May 4, 2017
Marine landings in Kochi , Munambam and Vypeen harbours April 24-30, 2017
According to fish suppliers, landings have been low for the past 7-14 days as many fishing vessels were still docked after Easter. Landings are expected during first week of May after many vessels trawling for the past 20 days. There were small landings on Saturday 29th April consisting of only a few vessels but we can expect better catch on this week as started yesterday, (02/05/2017) with the following marine species:
Yellow Fin tuna – Thunnus albacares, The skipjack tuna ( Katsuwonus pelamis), Sword Fish (xiphias gladius), as the quantity is very less and the price high, some processors declined purchases.
Deep sea shrimp i.e. Solenocera crassicornis , Parapenaeopsis stylifera ,metapenaeus dobsonii catch has dropped.
Marine landings in Malabar Coast during last week of April 2017 until present:
According to fish exporters, there have been some landings on Metapenaeus dobsonii ,Sardinella gibbosa, and Nemipterus japonicus (Japanese threadfin bream).
Kollam – Neendakara harbour– fish suppliers are seeing a similar situation as Malabar Coast but Baigai is the only major species seeing landings there. Some processors expect in the coming weeks to be focussing on cephalopods, i.e. octopus and cuttlefish but nothing is certain at this time.
