India Shrimp Market Update : October 4, 2016
India shrimp raw material prices mostly holding steady this week. No significant change on raw material prices Packers in Andhra Pradesh purchasing R/M actively from Odisha and Kolkata. Andra Pradesh R/M prices are higher.
Landings have improved somewhat. Sizes landing from 30-100 pcs/kg HOSO but majority 50 pcs/kg & smaller.
Odisha landings currently more plentiful than Kolkata.
Sales to North America continue active although many buyers holding out for lower prices. It does not appear that those lower prices will materialize.
Order backlog in India, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Bangladesh remains high and opportunity for lower prices is low.
2nd crop in Orissa and Kolkata will last only another 4-5 weeks, then will drawn down and come to an end by late November. We expect raw material shortage from December onwards in Orissa and Kolkata.
R/M availability in Andhra Pradesh will continue as ponds are re-stocked throughout the year but quantities are not expected to be significant. The next abundant landing season should be 2nd quarter of 2017.
