India Shrimp Market Update : December 15, 2016
India Vannamei prices remain largely unchanged for the past 3 weeks, however prices are expected to increase soon as availability is dropping.
In Andhra Pradesh, around 10-15% new stocking has already been done and shrimp are at about 100 pcs/kg HOSO at this time. The harvest for these partial stockings maybe done soon but prices are expected to be high as demand, especially from Vietnam, is strong. The balance stocking of ponds (around 85-90%) will be done at the end of January into February.
The current harvest in Andhra Pradesh is with 30 and 40 pcs/kg HOSO as main sizes.
In Orissa and Kolkata, remaining quantities is going to be finished in the next 7-10 days. Those are largely from 30 to 100 pcs/kg but quantities are almost negligible. At present most of packers in Orissa and Kolkata are not entertaining any new requirements. Perhaps the best they can do is to offer just one or two containers with varieties of sizes, depending on what they have in hand.
The availability of wild caught Black Tiger is extremely low while the new catching will start again only in April 2017. At present some sea caught shrimps like Sea White / Sea Tiger / Flower Shrimps are available there.
