India Shrimp Market Update : March 1, 2017
India raw material prices from vannamei suppliers have increased a further 10 INR/kg from last week on 30 to 70 pcs/kg HOSO.
Re-seeding has been continuing in most farming areas of Andhra Pradesh. Seeding that started in January is going well and partial harvests will start mid March. Vannamei suppliers expect sizes landing at beginning of harvest are 60 – 100 pcs/kg.
Many farmers in Andhra Pradesh are now taking more sustainable approach to avoid potential problems for their crops. Thus we see a good chance for better productivity in 2017 according to vannamei suppliers.
Harvests in Odisha and Kolkata are expected to start end April. Vannamei will remain the majority of production and Black Tiger production is expected to be similar or less than 2016.
The only area that will likely have significant volumes of Black Tiger is Kolkata and the main availability will be traditional farmed black tiger. Traditional black tiger landings in Kolkata are expected to start within the next week.
