India Shrimp Market Update : March 21, 2016
Vannamei raw material prices in India have moved up further, 5 – 20 Rps/kg. It appears prices will remain stable or move up further for at least another 1-2 weeks.
Processors currently have to pay prices demanded by farmers to fulfil needs for pending contracts. March 31 being fiscal year is adding additional pressure. Some orders pending will incur losses of up to USD 0.90/kg losses.
Landings however are ok with availability on almost all sizes but availability on smaller size i.e. 70,80,90 and 100 pcs/kg have improved even more so.
Chinese buyers are showing interest as their current requirement for re-processing are those smaller sizes.
Vietnam buyers less active at this time.
In Orissa and Kolkata, we expect the season will start by May 1st week and the main sizes should come with 50 and 60 counts. The Vannamei volume out of Orissa and Kolkata will definitely be more this year.
