China Shrimp Market Update : May 8, 2017
According to India shrimp suppliers, there were high levels of mortality in Kolkata area which resulted in some distress harvests of small sizes and temporary price drops. Beyond this, landings in Bhubaneswar are poor and processors are depending on harvests from Andhra Pradesh. However. shrimp exporters are saying that Bhubaneswar and Kolkata are expected to have good harvests May 15-20.
This year Bhubaneswar (Odisha) processors may up their farm-gate prices to farmers in order to compete for supply with processors from Andhra Pradesh. Last year Odisha processors & shrimp exporters were paying 40-50 INR/KG below A.P. processors. This year they will likely narrow the gap to obtain more raw material.
