India Shrimp Market Update : September 1, 2017
Vannamei suppliers have seen India shrimp raw material prices move up 10-15 INR/kg for all sizes except 30,90 & 100 pcs/kg HOSO counts.
According to white shrimp suppliers, current landings in India remain generally weak. Quantities of smaller sizes; 70 – 100 pcs/kg HOSO have been more abundant as harvesting of 2nd crop has started in several areas.
2nd crop is expected to be in full swing by 15th September and main sizes expected at that time will 26/30 and smaller. Shrimp processors in Andhra Pradesh are closely monitoring the raw material situation in Orissa and Kolkata as their demands are strong.
Vannamei suppliers expect that the raw material prices are most likely to remain firm or move up even following full harvest of the 2nd crop. Demand remains very strong as does competition among processors for raw material from white shrimp suppliers. Many processors have very large orders still on the books for shipments due within September.
Current demands from China seems to match with current landing patterns as main demand in China is mostly medium & small sizes. Demand from Vietnam has dropped this year due to significant improvement in Vietnam’s own production.
