India Shrimp Market Update : September 1, 2016
India shrimp raw material prices moved up this week INR 10/kg across all sizes except 60 pcs/kg count. Landings have not improved and new crops have failed in several areas.
Raw material prices have pushed up even further due to many outstanding contracts on the books. Many contracts currently delayed.
Raw material landings seemingly without pattern. One day harvesting 40, 50 counts but next day 70-90 pcs/kg counts. Size uniformity of India shrimp landings expect to improve 2nd half September.
Some India shrimp packers in Andhra Pradesh obtaining large size raw material from Gujarat processing EZ Peel and PDTO sizes 13/50-21/25.
Currently Odisha harvesting from 2nd shrimp crop. Also some mortality problems resulting in early harvests. Odisha shrimp raw material prices up due to early harvests and Andhra packers buying there. There is speculation that due to shrimp mortalities in several areas volume of 2nd crop in Odisha and Kolkata might drop as much as 35%-40%.
In Kolkata shrimp harvest from 2nd crop just started price remains high. Main size 26/30 HLSO and smaller.
Japanese shrimp buyers very active with vannamei purchasing as black tiger very scarce at present.
Current main market for shrimp packers in Odisha and Kolkata currently China and Japan.
