India Shrimp Production Outlook
Andhra Pradesh Outlook:
Price levels for 30,40,50,60 remain the same as last week. However the price for small sizes shows signs of rebounding with increase of 10 to 20 Rupees/kg due to current scarcity of those small counts. It’s likely this shortage of small counts in Andhra Pradesh will continue until end of July. That means we should see an improvement of small count supply only in August.
Another significant factor is current weather conditions. We have seen some rains in Andhra Pradesh. If there is strong likelihood for major storms, farmers may choose to harvest early.
Buyers in Vietnam and China continue to purchase significant volumes but recent confirmations are for HLSO 16/20 down to 31/40 with very little smaller sizes.
Orissa & Kolkata Outlook:
In Odisha, the main landings are currently 50 count ( 50%), 40 count (20%) and balance 30% for smaller counts. The price appears to be in line with prices in Andhra Pradesh. Weather conditions will also play a crucial role, again, if there is strong likelihood for major storms, farmers may choose to harvest early.
In Calcutta, Vannamei raw material are available for 16/20 to 51/60 HLSO counts at present. However the quantity from Kolkatta appears smaller, as compared to other regions.
