Indonesian Fish Production Market Update : November 20, 2017
The fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing is resulting in much high production of Indonesian fish. More fish are now being legally landed in Indonesia and available to fish suppliers for the local market or for frozen fish exporters, rather than being landed in other countries.
Production had reached 6.4 million tons in 2014, 7.1 million tons in 2015 and 9.9 million tons in 2016 according to the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti. It is expected that 2017 production could reach 12 million tons.
At the same time the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is encouraging Indonesian people to increase their consumption of fish. Fish suppliers are confident that there be plenty of fish left over for fish exporters.
