Shrimp Exporters in Thailand surprisingly find prices for raw shrimps moving up : July 9, 2018
Thailand Vannamei exporters have suffered because shrimp farmers have reduced their production. The Shrimp farmers suffered losses from low prices during March through May 2018.
When prices came down some Thai packers managed to get some new orders. When the shrimp exporters with the pending orders starting to buy raw material more aggressively to fulfill their orders it turned out that there were not enough raw shrimp supplies and this pushed up the price.
Vannamei Exporters say there is strong demand from China for cooked and raw whole shrimp processed from LIVE raw material. China buyers are willing to pay OVER US1 per kg for live shrimp above what USA, Canada and Japan will pay.
The farmers tend to hold their shrimp and wait for Chinese buyers.
