Squid Market Update : September 20, 2016
Current catch of Todarodes Pacificus squid for China is a failure. Chinese factories are all coming up short and prices continue to move up. Order backlog and short domestic supply all helping to push prices up.
Global supply of loligo, especially Asian loligo very short in all origins, particularly in Thailand where catches are minimal.
Ilex Argentinus: next season in South Atlantic begins in February 2017. Vessels will start docking at China ports in April 2017 for domestic consumption as well as further processing.
Overall squid supplies will remain extremely short until at least end Q2, 2017
